Make Youth Bible Activities
with your language!
Who did we make this for?
For young people around 7-14 years ages.
If there are older youth involved they could become the narrator of the drama. If they are younger, have an older person specifically work with them. |
There are not many resources for young people in different Indigenous language groups.
Indigenous Australian Kriol-speaking youth leaders were looking around for ideas to do with their youth. And after several years of youth camps, we have many resources that we have made and we want people to be able to access these.
|
Why did we make this?
Because young people said that church... "boring" "I don't like to listen to all the talking" "It's for older people!" |
Young people take notice
Do (40%)+ listen (20%) + see (30%) = 90%
"When I was a little girl I used to play with my cousins. We played games of marbles and would sit at home talking about colouring-in. But the best thing from my childhood was Sunday School. We would listen to the priest tell stories about Jesus, how he hunted, fished, how he walked. These stories were told in Kriol."

Warning:
We want the young people to learn the Bible stories, but we don’t want the young people to puff up with knowledge – but grow in Love for each other and deeper in their relationship with God. (Anderson, G, verbal conversation, 2015)
1 Corinthians 8:1b
‘Knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

Resources
Made with Indigenous Leaders
Kriol Resources - I, Rachel Borneman, made these resources with various Kriol-speaking ladies, including Mavis Jumbiri, Joanne Brummel, etc. Some resources had the help of a Unity College team visiting for Leadership Training.
Some videos were made with Aileen Bulumbara. These resources have been used with community kids, Indigenous youth leaders and with Youth With A Mission teams visiting, etc.
Any Language group - these ideas have come from working through ideas since 2010 (while with AuSIL) to find ways that worked and included Leadership Training to prepare for our youth camp.
